Character

Inspired by midcentury jazz album covers in which patterns of simple geometric shapes create a kind of visual music, the letters, numbers, and symbols of Character repeat within warping grids to create an unexpected rhythm. Each manually designed and coded character depends on familiarity to create meaning, surprise, and pictorial associations.

Also inspired by vintage word games with their retro grid patterns, typography, and colors, Character generates simple compositions, each featuring one glyph energetically repeated within minimal constraints.

Priced for batch minting, all pieces generated from one transaction mint in the same color palette through a generative color system that determines a palette range, but not exact hues. Collectors are encouraged to make personalized diptychs, triptychs, or even whole words with their outputs.

Each character was manually designed in Illustrator within a strict grid. Lines representing increments of pixels made it possible to translate to code.

Each palette uses ranges of rgb values rather than set values, so a collection of outputs within one palette has color variation from piece to piece.
